‘भारतीय संविधान के निर्माता’ और भारत के पहले कानून मंत्री, डॉ. भीमराव आम्बेडकर ने अपने जीवन में हर कदम पर चुनौतियों का सामना किया। लेकिन वे कभी रुके नहीं। उनके इस सफ़र में बहुत-से लोगों ने उनका साथ दिया। कभी उनके स्कूल में एक शिक्षक ने उनसे प्रभावित होकर उनको अपना उपनाम दे दिया, तो बड़ौदा के शाहू महाराज ने उन्हें उच्च शिक्षा के लिए इंग्लैंड भेज दिया था।

इन सब लोगों के बीच एक और नाम था, जिसके ज़िक्र के बगैर बाबासाहेब की सफ़लता की कहानी अधूरी है। वह नाम है रमाबाई आम्बेडकर!

रमाबाई भीमराव आम्बेडकर बाबा साहेब की पत्नी थीं। आज भी लोग उन्हें ‘मातोश्री’ रमाबाई के नाम से जानते हैं। 7 फ़रवरी 1898 को जन्मी रमा के परिवार की आर्थिक स्थिति बहुत अच्छी नहीं थी। बचपन में ही उनके माता-पिता का देहांत हो गया था। ऐसे में उनके मामा ने उन्हें और उनके भाई-बहनों को पाला।

साल 1906 में 9 वर्ष की उम्र में उनकी शादी बॉम्बे (अब मुंबई) के बायकुला मार्किट में 14-वर्षीय भीमराव से हुई। रमाबाई को भीमराव प्यार से ‘रामू’ बुलाते थे और वो उन्हें ‘साहेब’ कहकर पुकारतीं थीं। शादी के तुरंत बाद से ही रमा को समझ में आ गया था कि पिछड़े तबकों का उत्थान ही बाबा साहेब के जीवन का लक्ष्य है। और यह तभी संभव था, जब वे खुद इतने शिक्षित हों कि पूरे देश में शिक्षा की मशाल जला सके।

बाबा साहेब के इस संघर्ष में रमाबाई ने अपनी आख़िरी सांस तक उनका साथ दिया। बाबा साहेब ने भी अपने जीवन में रमाबाई के योगदान को बहुत महत्वपूर्ण माना है। उन्होंने अपनी किताब ‘थॉट्स ऑन पाकिस्तान’ को रमाबाई को समर्पित करते हुए लिखा, कि उन्हें मामूली-से भीमा से डॉ. आम्बेडकर बनाने का श्रेय रमाबाई को जाता है।

हर एक परिस्थिति में रमाबाई बाबा साहेब का साथ देती रहीं। बाबा साहेब वर्षों अपनी शिक्षा के लिए बाहर रहे और इस समय में लोगों की बातें सुनते हुए भी रमाबाई ने घर को सम्भाले रखा। कभी वे घर-घर जाकर उपले बेचतीं, तो बहुत बार दूसरों के घरों में काम करती थीं। वे हर छोटा-बड़ा काम कर, आजीविका कमाती थीं और साथ ही, बाबासाहेब की शिक्षा का खर्च जुटाने में भी मदद करती रहीं।

जीवन की जद्दोज़हद में उनके और बाबासाहेब के पांच बच्चों में से सिर्फ़ यशवंत ही जीवित रहे। पर फिर भी रमाबाई ने हिम्मत नहीं हारी, बल्कि वे खुद बाबासाहेब का मनोबल बढ़ाती रहीं। बाबासाहेब के और इस देश के लोगों के प्रति जो समर्पण रमाबाई का था, उसे देखते हुए कई लेखकों ने उन्हें ‘त्यागवंती रमाई’ का नाम दिया।

आज बाबासाहेब आम्बेडकर की ही तरह उनके जीवन पर भी नाटक, फ़िल्म आदि बने हैं। उनके नाम पर देश के कई संस्थानों के नाम भी रखे गये। उनके ऊपर ‘रमाई,’ ‘त्यागवंती रमामाऊली,’ और ‘प्रिय रामू’ जैसे शीर्षकों से किताबें लिखी गयीं हैं। पूरे 29 वर्ष तक बाबासाहेब का साथ निभाने के बाद साल 1935 में 27 मई के दिन एक लंबी बीमारी के चलते रमाबाई का निधन हो गया।

अक्सर कहते हैं कि एक सफल और कामयाब पुरुष के पीछे एक स्त्री का हाथ होता है और ‘मातोश्री’ रमाबाई ने इस कहावत को सच कर दिखलाया था।

We know, there is a women behind every successful person and this saying holds perfectly fit for Mata Ramabai Ambedkar who sacrificed her whole life to support Babasaheb to become a greatest person.

Mata Ramabai Ambedkar (1896 – 1935 ) was a second daughter of Bhiku Dhutre of Wanand a village in the Dapoli sub – division. Ramabai was married to Babasaheb in 1906 . She was intelligent, kind, poise, obedient, chaste, possessing high character, besides having simplicity of style and taste. This saintly lady although lived in extreme poverty but without a whisper of complaint on her face.

As Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar used to study hard, he could devote very little time for house hold affairs. But still Ramabhai ensured that nobody disturbed him during this study or working. She cared for the health and welfare of her husband by all means.

When Ambedkar was in America, she

lived a life of destitute but without any regret. It is rare historical example of courage & conviction of a wife. Acute financial crisis was making Babasaheb to struggle to obtain world’s highest Academic degrees including Doctorate of Science in foreign lands.

Despite financial crisis for studies and at home, Dr. Ambedkar became Barrister reinforced by a London Doctorate of Science, an American Doctorate in Philosophy and Studies of Bonn University, which reflects immense sacrifices of his wife.

When Ambedkar was preparing to go to America for higher studies, the

neighbouring women advised Ramabai to stop her husband from going abroad, as he may marry a Mem (English lady)and desert her. But Ramabai had unflinching faith on Babasaheb & she didn’t stop him for going abroad. Dr. Ambedkar settled down on the work for emancipation of down trodden but Ramabai continued in grief. This acted

upon her health badly and she fell gravely ill. No medicine could give her relief and at last she took her last breath on 27th May 1935.

Really we can never forget Ramabai’s devotion, sacrifice, contribution & support in enabling Babasaheb taking higher education and performing his social obligation.

A person, a family, a caste, a community, a organization, a region, a religion, a state, a country will adopt whatever ideology necessary for it’s existence. It will adopt practices important for it’s survival.

If your socioeconomic position allows you to have capitalism, you can have capitalism. If not you can propogate Communism.

Tye family of Ambedkar, Babasaheb Ambrdkar and Ramabai Ambedkar adopted what they thought was necessary at that point of time. They suffered the most and lost their kids because of their work for betterment of larger community. Certainly, the community beniftted from the sacrifices of Ramabai will remember her in the way they can. It is not valorization of sacrifice, but accepting the reality of life. It doesn’t mean, present generation of woman have to sacrifice like Ramabai. That situation not exists today for the employed families.

The educated and employed section of scheduled castes are benifishieris of sacrifices of Ambedkar family. It is because the sacrificies of Ambedkar family and the same generation accusing other community members that they are velorising sacrifices of Ramabai, when they can offered sime foreign trips and foreign theories. Hello, Ramabai Ambedkar remains as goddess. Because she was and she is goddess.
